ALBERTA BIG RIG WEEKEND DATE
CHANGE
AUGUST 18th -
19th
Welcome to Pro-Trucker
Magazine
"The voice of Western Canadian
Truckers."
In February 1999 the dream of a Western
Canadian Trucking Magazine became a reality. Until then the
only magazines available in Western Canada
were published in Ontario and the advertisers, for the most part,
were from the East.
Today Western Canadian truckers have their own
magazine that is quite unique in that we don't write technical
articles. Instead Pro-Trucker is an entertainment magazine where
you can read about other drivers and their life on the road; their
problems and how they handle them; issues of the day and the
ever present humour that hopefully will put a smile on your face
when you are far from home.

May 2012
Editorial:

For many years now we have had a Tow Truck
category at the BC and Alberta Big Rig Weekend events. The rollover
recovery demonstrations that tow companies have put on at our shows
have always been a big hit with everyone. Tow truck drivers and tow
companies in turn have strongly supported the transportation
industry at many charity trucking events like the Convoy for a
Cure, the Lighted Christmas Parade and the 18 Wheels of
Christmas.
Many times over the years we have been asked
by those in the tow industry to feature a Tow Truck on the cover of
Pro-Trucker Magazine but we have always resisted the temptation,
not wanting to move away from our more conventional truck driver
format. We did compromise in our July 2010 issue when we profiled
Brittany Linde who at the time was doing heavy haul for Aggressive
Auto Towing. As many of you know the movement of machinery has
always been a big part of the tow industry.
Over the past couple years the requests have
taken on a new twist. Instead of just being included in Pro-Trucker
Magazine, the requests have been for us to publish a separate
magazine specifically for the tow industry. The description most
often given was a free widely distributed magazine much like
Pro-Trucker that could and would showcase those in the industry as
well as address some of the industry issues.
I’m happy to announce that Pro-Trucker
Magazine has finally decided to publish a sister publication
starting in June 2012. It will be called Pro-Towing and Recovery
Magazine and it will, as requested, have an entertainment format
much like Pro-Trucker. It will be published 6 times per year to
start and will not only be free and as widely distributed as
Pro-Trucker Magazine –it will also venture into Ontario and Eastern
Canada.
Ben Proudley, who currently is an associate
writer and part time photographer for Pro-Trucker Magazine, will
put his 12 years of tow truck experience to good use as the Editor
of Pro-Towing and Recovery Magazine.
On another note there have been numerous
requests to include more categories and some friendly (yeah right)
competitions during Big Rig Weekends. With that in mind we will
include a Best Fleet Category (3 trucks or more) and a Best in Show
Company Truck category at both the BC and Alberta events.
There will be a driver skills competition and a crane/hiab
competition. At the crane/hiab competition, “future truckers” will
also be able to compete. (The age limit is yet to be determined.)
Finally, if Keith Roberts, our November 2009 Rig of the Month
driver, has his way there will be a chain up competition, although
hauling logs in that country probably gives him an unfair
advantage.
The Tow Truck participation at Big Rig
Weekends will also be expanded to feature four Tow Truck categories
instead of the one we currently have and we will have three tow
truck competitions; Dolly, Quick Entry and backing up a towed
vehicle.
